Happy New Year!

Ok, so I know, I've been a terrible blogger! Its been exactly 1 month since I have posted an update, but my new years resolution is to update regularly! With all the craziness of holiday orders, traveling to see family, getting a significant amount of snow in Florence (which is rare and I absolutely loved it, it was beautiful!) and then finally taking some time off, I completely abandoned my poor little blog :-(

BUT....I do have a few new ideas for topics which I think will make for interesting reading......as much as I love and appreciate the history of Florence and the Medieval and Renaissance art that is around each corner, I do believe that its time to move forward and bring something new to the table; the "here and now" Florence today and all of the incredible artists and designs that draw their inspiration from this amazing city. Not even an internet search for "contemporary art Florence" offers up worthy results. And I don't mean the artisans of the Oltrearno working in the classical traditional methods, I mean the young contemporary artists and designers that are offering up some amazing work and fresh new ideas. While its true that some of the most important and most influential artists and architects in history have walked the streets of Florence hundreds of years ago, a focus on the present is long overdue. It is also important to note that contemporary art has grown from history and that each step in the art historical time-line has enabled contemporary artists to reach todays level, therefore, I've always believed that a true art historian also understands the significance of contemporary art, as it too will some day become part of history. We certainly need to honor and respect the the great masters of the past but also appreciate what is here in front of us. So that is exactly what I will attempt to accomplish in 2010. I will feature one new artist or designer each week by writing a short bio about them and photographing their work. As an artist/designer myself I realize the importance of establishing relationships with the other creative people around me, therefore, I am also interested in forming a contemporary artists community as well. I know how difficult it can be as a young designer to get the word out about your work and make yourself visible so please feel free to leave your comments below and let me know if you know of any artists living in Florence that may like to be featured here. If you are planning on a visit to Florence in the near future, don't forget to check out this blog for something new and different or drop me a note and I will be happy to answer your questions about great finds in the city.... For now a big ciao and a Happy New Year!!
