Project Renovation: Day 1
Feb 23, 2010 at 9:06 So it looks like my life for the next month or so is going to have a lot to do with the renovation of an old warehouse turned apartment in a great old neighborhood of Florence. My husband and I will be getting our hands dirty (well he does this everyday) completely restoring this old place. Now its no where near a villa Under the Tuscan Sun but it certainly is a lot bigger than the tiny studio apartment we've been living in. (think college dorm room, with a mini kitchen and a bathroom.) The new place is about 3 times bigger including a little courtyard! Yay!! a little outside space of our own in the city!
Yesterday we began the daunting task of emptying out what will eventually be our bedroom. (see photos below) After years of being used as a warehouse it was piled from floor to ceiling with "stuff" (I would say "junk", but my husband insists that it is NOT "junk") I do have to say however, that we did find a few things that will eventually come in handy, like an old Singer sewing machine table that I would love to paint and turn into our new kitchen table as well as a computer desk. Can you imagine? Our printer won't have to be wedged in between the T.V. and the armouir (sp?) anymore!

Its a good thing that the man does this kind of thing for a living so we (well really, he) can do it all ourselves. My creative juices are already flowing and I cannot wait until the fun part of decorating and choosing colors and furniture begins. I am already deep into the blog world of interior design and have found some really great stuff.

Check out Four Wall and a Roof for some really great design styles and a whole list of other wonderful contemporary design blogs. Please let me know of any other sites that may be interesting. We are really all about using what we have and what we find and we love color and comfort. Needless to say this is going to be quite an adventure!
So, in other words, my blog updates regarding contemporary art in Florence will be taking a leave of absence while we get this project up and running. I can't wait to see what happens!
P.S. I will also apologize for the photo quality here, we forgot our camera and took these with our phone, But I will do more today and show you what we found behind the closet........
